JudgesSandra QuinnDirector of Communications The UK Cards Association and Payments Council Sandra joined the payments industry (APACS) in 1990 and took up the post of Director of Communications in September 2002. In the last 6 years APACS, on behalf of its members, adopted a progressive agenda; most notably in areas such as promoting transparency and responsible lending. This has included communicating how to protect ourselves and our cards against fraud as well as understanding the terms and conditions of their use. Sandra's work on behalf of the payments industry has included leading the industry activity on euro issues; managing the public campaign to increase awareness of chip and PIN; representing the industry at various Government discussions including Treasury Committee inquiries; improving education and awareness of the importance of payments in our daily life and how we can get the best out of the payments we need to make - whether that is by plastic card, cash, the new Faster Payments Service or by cheque. APACS has been the umbrella name for the co-operative activity of banks, building societies and card issuers on payments and payment systems since the mid-80s but will disappear this year. In April 2009, The UK Cards Association was formed as the successor body to APACS on card-related issues; other bodies, such as Financial Fraud Action UK, will take over other industry work throughout this year. On behalf of the payments industry, UK Payments Administration provides the people, facilities and expertise to the payments industry and Sandra and her team will continue to be the industry voice on payments issues such as plastic cards, card fraud, cheques, electronic payments and cash. |
